LEARN

I offer private, in-person or online art lessons.

Why Study Art?

I believe art education to be beneficial in numerous ways.

Studying art strengthens divergent thinking, a critical tool in good leadership, new ideas, positive growth, and successful thinking. It is a necessary and beneficial skill in our increasingly complex world.

Art allows us to express ourselves. It allows us to release and make sense of our fears, pain, and sorrow in a positive manner, and has proven to be an effective tool for therapeutic healing. It can also serve as a form of mindfulness.

Art teaches empathy and helps us connect with others. It encourages community and communication. It strengthens our awareness, compassion, and individuality. It reminds us that there are many different and valid ways of being in this world.

Art can fill us with a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, and can be effective in improving confidence and self-worth. Art can also teach us patience, perseverance, humility, risk versus reward analysis, history, and so much more!

We are all creative! Anyone can learn to be good at art with a few tips and a lot of practice.

My Approach

I enjoy working with my students to determine what they hope to get from their art lessons, and from me as a teacher. I will ask several questions to determine the student’s goals for the class and how get the most out of our time together. Private lessons are custom designed for each student.

I love all forms of art and am happy to explore traditional, contemporary, and/or experimental styles in many mediums. I use both short exercises and multi-session projects to teach fundamentals, intermediate techniques, and more advanced skills.

I have worked with, and welcome, all age groups and abilities, from kindergarteners to seniors, and can accomodate lessons according to age, ability, interest, and time.

I am organized, think creatively, enjoy individuality, and am capable of explaining things in several different ways. I strive to always be an open, inspiring, positive, fun, productive, and challenging teacher.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art with concentrations in Painting and Art Education. This degree taught how to make art in its many mediums, and to understand the nuances of teaching it.
